A late-summer weekend evening on the Downtown Mall brings some of our favorite things together: good food, friends and neighbors, and live music. This coming Sunday, September 15, that music will be none other than Willie Nelson, in a show at the nTelos Wireless Pavilion that offers an opportunity to help support the Local Food Hub.
The Local Food Hub is a Charlottesville-based nonprofit that distributes locally sourced food from Charlottesville-area farmers to local commercial clients like hospitals, schools, and restaurants, creating a broader market for the food our farmers grow. Farmers can become part of the Local Food Hub network after participating in an application process that includes a farm visit, maximizing the transparency of their farm’s approach to producing food. Farmers make regular deliveries to the Local Food Hub, which labels each farms’ products and then delivers bulk quantities of this locally sourced food to the large commercial clients that require sizeable amounts of such products.
Willie Nelson will headline the concert, with his son’s band—Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real—opening the show. Those interested in supporting the Local Food Hub can consider a sponsorship package that includes a preconcert party, free parking, and more.
How fortunate we are to live in a little city that gets national musical acts, and attracts this level of support for our local food community. Enjoy the show!
