Please join us at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18, at the Charlottesville Cooking School for our 2015 Virginia Festival of the book event: Good Local Food: Finding, Preparing, and Tasting.
Our portion of the event will include a demonstration and tasting crafted by Gay Beery, founding chef and owner of APimento Catering. Gay has been part of the Our Local Commons journey from Volume I, when a story about her and APimento was sponsored by Amore Events. When we were seeking sponsors for Volume II, Gay was among the first to jump into the ring, sponsoring her own story about Whisper Hill Farm. Her involvement in both books also means we’ve been able to enjoy her incredible cooking multiple times, which is a true treat. We feel so fortunate to have her as part of our Festival of the Book experience this year.
Gay will be doing a demo on roasted root vegetables with spice butter, something she cooked up for the meal detailed in Volume II in which APimento staff sat down with the folks from Whisper Hill. For the tasting, she’ll be sharing a soup of summer onions, fava beans and English peas, with coriander and buttermilk, dusted with sumac, which she made for us back in spring of 2013 when we were shooting her creations for Volume I. Both have remained in our minds ever since and we are eager to share them with a wider audience. The opportunity to learn from Gay is not one to be missed!
The Good Local Food event will also feature Brooke and Luther Fedora — authors of The Foodie’s Beer Book and owners of Horse & Hound Gastropub on West Main Street. We look forward to sharing a discussion with them on our vibrant local food scene.
And most of all, we look forward to seeing you! Please join us!
