Friends, we are excited to help spread the word: The Underground Kitchen is coming to Charlottesville on December 3!

Launched in Richmond two years ago and now in six cities and counting, The Underground Kitchen combines the soul of a supper club with the originality of a pop-up dinner, elevating an evening meal into an intimate, invigorating experience. UGK has gained an enthusiastic following in places like Richmond and Washington, D.C., where tickets to its dinners sell out in minutes.

The good news for food enthusiasts of Charlottesville is that tickets for the December 3 event — intriguingly named Ports of Indulgence — are available right now. But get them soon: these dinners are designed for only a few dozen guests, and tickets go quickly.

Here’s how The Underground Kitchen works:

Supper club members receive emailed invitations announcing an upcoming dinner, with a link for purchasing tickets. To become a member, you need only register on UGK’s website.

Members buy tickets knowing only the date, time and city of the dinner. The chef and location remain a secret. The tickets are all-inclusive of the meal, wine, and gratuity and are available on a first come, first served basis, with a limit of two per person.

Each event features a theme, which is incorporated into the menu, setting, and décor.

A top-notch chef is handpicked for each dinner, designing a five- to seven-course menu that reflects the evening’s theme. The chef’s identity and the menu he or she has crafted remains a secret until the day of the event. During the evening, the chef comes out to talk with the guests about the vision for the meal, and their inspiration to be part of UGK.

The location also remains a secret until 48 hours before the event. The Underground Kitchen seeks out locations that provide locals with the chance to experience a place they may not otherwise have the opportunity to see. Past locations have included art studios, farms, restaurants, and private homes.

Profits benefit efforts to eliminate food deserts here in Virginia and elsewhere, promoting food equity and sustainable, healthy eating for all.

We will be sharing more about The Underground Kitchen in the coming weeks. For now — go grab your tickets for Ports of Indulgence, and get ready for what promises to be a remarkable evening.
